A Suffolk stay away with real peace of mind

Why Letheringham Water Mill Cottages are Social Distancing at its Best

Somehow even now - when horizons seem brighter, if still tinged with a little uncertainty - staying away from home with absolute confidence can seem harder to do. Getting away from it all has always been important and months of pandemic-regulated living have made it a must.

At Letheringham Mill, we pride ourselves on providing an environment for utter relaxation - a place where all our guests including canine companions, can truly retreat and be worry-free. Here in our fully enclosed rural riverside site, we offer self-contained freedom from the get-go and cottages which are luxuriously decorated, cleaned and kitted out to feel like an absolute home-from-home.

The very best level of comfort, cleanliness and service

Our longstanding, first class formula, together with our housekeeping team’s superb attention to detail can really put your mind at rest. We take the health, safety and wellbeing of our guests, our team and all visitors to our property very seriously and have always been totally committed to providing the very best level of comfort, cleanliness and service as standard. On our re-opening in April 2021, we extended our strict cleaning regime even further to ensure that everywhere, for every stay is as COVID-secure as possible.

“Owners spared no expense to provide everything needed for a stress-free break, especially in these COVID times. Felt very safe. Will definitely be returning and encouraging others too.” (Hayloft Guest)

Self-contained freedom from the get-go

Letheringham Mill is a retreat where you can keep yourself to yourself, if you wish - or enjoy the company of others at a sociable, social distance if you prefer. It’s a sizeable, yet fully enclosed site bordering the River Deben entered through automatic gates from the quietest of Suffolk country lanes.

We provide an entry code for the property gates along with the push-button access code for your cottage before arrival, so you can drive in, settle down into your holiday home-from-home and start your well-deserved break at your own pace.

There is no need to collect a key, no need to be shown the ropes and no need for any greetings - ‘elbowed’ or otherwise - or face-to-face contact unless you wish. Owner Jacqui (or one of the housekeeping team) is however usually close by at the Mill House adjacent to the entrance - or at least only just a wave or phone call away.

Idle away the time or enjoy ideas aplenty

At Letheringham Mill, we’ve ensured that each of our luxury holiday cottages has all you need for a most comfortable stay, so you can switch off and while away the day in your riverside cottage, going with the flow, watching the wildlife or curling up with a good book if you wish. Wander through the gardens and grounds. Take your holidaying hounds for some run-around fun in the field or borrow our four-legged friends for a walk by the willows – Ted, Amber and Lola are always keen to oblige!

Each individual holiday cottage has its own designated garden, riverside decking or terrace and dedicated parking area. In addition, the top lawn gardens and the big field, copse, woods and wetlands beyond the river sluice-gate provide plenty of room to roam – shared space, but only ever shared by a handful of souls!

Our little patch of Suffolk and the wonderful heritage coast nearby are ideal for any length of outing. We provide information and ideas aplenty about (almost) everything here and in the locality through a comprehensive set of property-specific manuals, including places to visit, mooch with the pooch, eat out and enjoy, as well as go-to providers of great takeaways and local produce, should you prefer to dine ‘at home’. At Letheringham Water Mill Cottages, the choice is always yours.

Come and join us. We look forward to welcoming you very soon.

We are in the Suffolk Magazine!

We now have a regular news piece in the Suffolk Magazine - look out for the Postcard from Letheringham Mill every other month! Here’s what we had to say for the October edition…..

Dear All,

Hope all is good with you.  This is the first of our Postcards and we have so much to tell you.  It was wonderful seeing so many of our guests finally return to our cottages this summer.  Many enjoyed mornings exploring Suffolk followed by afternoon walks with the dogs around Easton and Letheringham, perhaps popping into our local, Easton White Horse on the way and ending the day with evenings on the decking relaxing by the river.  With the change in season we are now making the most of Autumn.  Around the grounds are firepits - perfect for cosy evenings of star gazing and mulled wine.

I write this postcard having spent the morning planning the Christmas decorating of the cottages and grounds.  We only have a few festive breaks available in December so do get in touch if you fancy Christmas in Suffolk or a pre-Christmas holiday making the most of some fabulous Suffolk Christmas Shopping.  My favourite shopping destinations are Snape Maltings, Woodbridge (full of independent boutiques) and I can never resist Aldeburgh!

And don’t forget we are known for being ‘differently dogfriendly’. Dogs are always extremely welcome here.  With our dog proof grounds and doggie welcome packs – we hope you can’t resist!

Hope to see you soon.

Love

Sad News

Dear All,

It is with huge sadness that I write this post. Our beloved Richard died last week after a lengthy and difficult illness.

Some of you may know that after a very successful career in aviation running both Luton and City Airports, Richard retired and we moved to Suffolk (where Richard had been born) to set up a holiday cottage business.

Our vision was to create a place of relaxation and retreat for our guests and their dogs. It was particularly important to Richard that it was a place of few rules - where dogs could run free allowing their owners a worry free stay; a place that made the most of the beautiful countryside around us and one our guests would return to again and again (like old friends). I think judging by the past few years' of awards and wonderful comments from you, we did it. Richard and I created something together that we were so very proud of.

And so life at Letheringham Mill goes on. We all feel terribly sad and we may seem quieter than usual (although I can’t vouch for Amber) but rest assured in Richard's name we'll continue to give you the best weekend or time away any dog friendly holiday cottage could offer.

So, please this summer when relaxing on the decking or wandering through our gardens, think of Richard and perhaps that evening raise a toast to him.

To this end and to build on Richard’s vision of the Suffolk countryside we have decided to design a new garden here in his memory. Click here to find out more.

With love

'Pet's the way to do it'

We featured in an article in the Sunday Mirror at the weekend. Writer Jenny Green wrote a lovely piece about places accepting more than two dogs and suggested destinations that were ‘truly dog-friendly’ rather than just ‘dog tolerant’.

“Pet’s the way to do it as Jenny Green finds top spots for animals.

For a luxury home from home, check in to one of the four stylish cottages on the banks of the River Deben. From the moment you drive through the gate, you can unclip your dog’s lead and let them roam freely around the seven-acre site, which is surrounded by water.

The picture postcard cottages, which sleep two to four, all come with a crate containing doggy essentials. Pets stay for free and there are no limits on numbers.”

Update from The Mill.....

Dear All,

We received a lovely review this weekend from some guests who stayed in The Hayloft last week.  In their kind comments they said ‘owners spared no expense to provide everything needed for a stress free break, especially in these COVID times’.  It made us really think.  Providing a safe, clean, stress-free break for you all is so important to us.  We have always gone to extra lengths to provide a very clean environment for all those who come to stay but now of course we go even further and our housekeeping team constantly receive compliments and thanks for ensuring that everywhere is as COVID secure as possible.

We so want to continue to stay open so we thought that we would remind you that we provide a safe place for you, that social distancing is easy here and that Suffolk is still very much open for business.  Come and stay soon.

With love,

Jacqui and Richard

Here is that full review:

“First ever dog holiday so really didn’t know what to expect.  Not disappointed at all – gorgeous setting, fantastic cottage (The Hayloft) and a safe location for our Syd to run free with other dogs in the secure grounds.  Can highly recommend Letheringham.  Owners spared no expense to provide everything needed for a stress free break, especially in these COVID times.  Felt very safe.  Will definitely be returning and encouraging others too.”

Feeling so excited about this wonderful review from Woof Wag Walk Blog

Last weekend the team behind the award winning dog blog Woof Wag Walk came to stay. They took some amazing photos and wrote this really lovely review. To read click HERE.

As I said Letheringham Mill is really a dog friendly destination in itself but it’s also the pawfect location for a wider exploration of Suffolk. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here but Maya and Lucia can’t rate it as 5 paw I’m afraid, they have to rate it 10 paw – it really is that good so if you’re looking for dog friendly accommodation in Suffolk you know where to go!
